Mentol-ER is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, heart failure, myocardial infraction.

Metoprolol competes with adrenergic neurotransmitters such as catecholamines for binding at beta(1)-adrenergic receptors in the heart. Beta(1)-receptor blockade results in a decrease in heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure.

It has rapid and complete absorption. Generally metabolized by hepatic route and eliminated by the kidney. Half-life is 3-7 hours.

for high blood pressure start with 25-100 mg PPO daily initially and increase at intervals of 1week or longer; usual range, 50-100mg/day not to exceed 400mg/day. For angina start with 100mg/day and increase at interval of 1week of longer and not exceed 400mg/day. For heart failure or after heart attack start with 25mg per day, increase every 2weeks PRN, target dosage is 200mg/day
