STATIN is indicated to lower the high cholesterol and triglycerides. It also increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL, also called good cholesterol) level.
STATIN selectively and competitively inhibits the hepatic enzyme HMG-COA reductase i.e. responsible for converting HMG-COA to mevalonate in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, resulting in a subsequent decrease in hepatic cholesterol levels.
