MIXAR is indicated for the treatment of patients with traveler's diarrhea caused by noninvasive strains of Escherichia coli, to reduce the risk of recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy in patients with advanced liver disease, and for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).

MIXAR (Raximin) is a nonsystemic antibiotic that interferes with bacterial transcription by binding to the β-subunit of bacterial RNA polymerase. This results in the blockage of the translocation step that normally follows the formation of the first phosphodiester bond, which occurs in the transcription process.

It is non-systemic antibiotic.

• Travelers’ diarrhea: One 200 mg tablet taken orally three times a day for 3 days, with or without food • Hepatic encephalopathy: One 550 mg tablet taken orally two times a day, with or without food • Irritable bowel syndrome : 550 mg PO q8hr for 14 days; recurrence of symptoms can be retreated with a 14 day treatment course, up to 2 times.
