ACENIL is used to treat painful rheumatic conditions as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It eases pain and reduces inflammation.

ACENIL works by blocking the effect of chemicals called cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. These enzymes help to make other chemicals in the body called prostaglandins. Some prostaglandins are produced at the sites of injury or damage, and cause pain and inflammation. By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, fewer prostaglandins are produced, which means pain and inflammation, are eased.

After oral administration of a single 100mg dose, Cmax of 6.8 to 8.9 mg/L were reached in about 1.4 to 2 hours. . The low plasma concentrations and AUC values for the metabolites indicate that ACENIL is principally responsible for the pharmacological activity. Approximately 70% of the drug is eliminated in the urine and 20% in the feces.

The usual oral dose of Acenil-SR is once daily.

Each strip contains 10 tablets.
